The draft (depth in water) of a full barge is 9 feet. The draft of a Huck's Houseboat Rental boat is only 18 inches. The bottom of the drives are 3 foot below the water.
When you hear on the news that the river is low and barges are getting stuck don't fret - You can still drive a houseboat over the water the barges are getting stuck in. Also note that when the barges start to get stuck the Army Corp of Engineers dredges the areas that are low so that barge traffic can keep moving.
