Bwindi has a population of around 340 mountain gorillas (Gorilla gorilla beringei); roughly half of the remaining mountain gorillas in the world. The ancient forest is home to the biggest ever troop of gorillas that are familiarised with humans. It is a humbling once-in-a-lifetime experience to be able to observe these shy and peaceful animals in their natural habitat.
