The river Arade was once an important highway for trade from the inland city of Silves past the fishing village of Portimao to the ocean. The little village of Mexilhoeira da Carregacao clo se to the mouth of the river was then an important centre for processing and canning fish. Even today the village retains its character and charm, and it is here, on the river bank, that Boca do Rio Resort offers all the luxury and comfort of today whilst recognising and respecting the traditions of the past.
