Named after the Union stockade that occupied the site during the Civil War, The Stockade is located near LSU and downtown Baton Rouge on historic Highland Road. The Stockade, located on historic Highland Road near LSU and downtown Baton Rouge, is a large Spanish-style hacienda with six comfortable guestrooms. Once a Civil War stockade, the bed and breakfast is named after its 19th century military origin and is listed on the National Registration of Historical Places as an archeological site. A guarded entrance at the road greets guests as they enter the property and serves as a reminder of The Stockades interesting past.
Highland Stockade encompasses approximately 30 acres of wooded land part of which is home to the original Stockade Cemetery. The bed and breakfast is situated upon a high bluff descending into low land that was once the riverbed of Ole Man River, the Mississippi . It is this geological contrast from which the name Highland Road is derived.
