The lodge originally served as the farm manager's house, and was very much a focal point of the 22,000 acre estate. Now, although ideally adapted to suit the needs of visitors from around the world, it retains the warm and friendly atmosphere of a large, traditional Falkland farm house. Situated in the centre of the only settlement, it provides a superb base from which to explore the island and experience a large Falkland farm at work, which today has some 10,000 sheep. Managers Jacqui and Allan, both Falkland Islanders, extend a warm welcome to their guests and bring high standards of hospitality and customer service to the lodge.
Pebble Island, at 24 miles long, is the third largest offshore island in the Falklands. It's diverse terrain offers vast white sand beaches, moor lands and rocky peaks, an extensive area of ponds and wetlands, and dramatic coastal cliffs. All of these provide vital breeding habitats for a wide-ranging population of birds, including some rare and elusive species like the Black-necked swan. Many thousands of Gentoo, Rockhopper and Magellanic penguins breed on Pebble Island each summer, spearheading the incredible list of some 42 resident bird species. In addition, each year the island seems to act as a magnet for many rare avian visitors from mainland South America and beyond. Marine mammal enthusiasts can enjoy raucous congregations of Southern sea lions.
