This beautiful and impeccably maintained bright red 250-year-old Nanak Shahi haveli of Rai Bahadur Rattan Chand's lineage nestles on almost an acre on the prestigious Mall Road in Amritsar. It is the first and only holistic spa resort in the northern plains of India. This haveli, which was run in the 19th and early 20th centuries as a guest house for visiting officials from abroad, was a accustomed to being frequented by royalty and eminent personalities. It is a haven of old world charm for visitors to Amritsar, the Sikh holy city of the Golden Temple. It is of course attractive by itself too as a luxury heritage spa.
In keeping with its holistic spa approach, the accommodation has been designed with full reference to 'vaastu' for the right direction and flow of energy. Each of the well-lit airy rooms is unique in colour and character. They all have patios or balconies overlooking the gardens. Amritsar, that owes its existence to the Golden Temple, is mainly a religious and trading town with few industries. Woollen items like blankets, shawls and sweaters are the main articles of manufacture.
