Warragul is based at the Old Customs House on the SA/VIC border. This is one of the most natural areas available to houseboat hirers, being surrounded by national parks.
The area is noted for it's large sandbars, ideal to tie up to. These are wonderful spots to enjoy a large range of activities; swimming and other water sports, bush walking ,watching the wild life such as kangaroos, emus, echidnas, koalas or goannas etc, fishing can be very successful here with many Callop ( Golden Perch, or Yellow Belly), and the elusive Murray Cod caught regularly, or you could even just relax and savour the river experience and scenery. There are many spectacular cliff lines to photograph, such as Devils Elbow. A large sand and clay cliff with an impressive formation, This bend used to be a hazard for river steamer traffic prior to the locks and weirs being built, but is easily navigable.
